Hitler’s drug dependence started after meeting Dr. Theodor Morell. Morell, who the history books describe as a chancer and a charlatan, became the Fuhrer's personal physician after he somehow managed to cure his stomach ailment.
It was of paramount importance that Hitler was able to function at all times, and so he became increasingly dependent on Morell’s pharmaceutical cocktails which often consisted of Methamphetamine, cocaine, and opioids.
Hitler's drug use had a profound effect on his decision-making. Methamphetamine, in particular, gave him a false sense of invincibility and made him feel more confident.
It was this drug induced confidence that also led him to make reckless decisions, such as invading the Soviet Union despite warnings from his generals.
Many historians believe that Hitler's drug addiction was so acute, that it was likely the catalyst that cost him the war.
