Today Wine-Searcher's Wine Director, David Allen MW tastes a wine from sunny southern France, near Perpignan and the border with Spain. The wine in question is a white wine made from Grenache Blanc and Grenache Gris. The wine in question is Les Clos de Paulilles Collioure Blanc 2021.
Les Clos de Paulilles has a history dating back to 1800 when it was created by the Bernadi Family. In 1975 the estate was the first to produce Banyuls in a Rimage style (like a Vintage Port). The estate also pioneered the use of Syrah and Mourvedre in making Collioure Rouge. It wasn't until 2012 that the property was acquired by its current owners the Cazes Family, vignerons from Rivesaltes in 2012.
The Caze family stated making wine in Rivesaltes in 1895. In 1927 they acquired Mas Joffre, the former property of First World War leader Marshal Joffre. The family have been making their wines using biodynamic methods for 25 years now.
