After having replaced a CV axle on my R53 Mini Cooper, I heard a nasty grinding metal noise during the test drive. I realized later I must have beat the dust shield when removing a ball joint to get at the axle. It sounded awful like maybe I had not seated the CV or the brake caliper was stuck - if I had thought about it for a minute I would have recognized the sound as a rubbing dust shield. It didn’t occur to me that I may have bent it at all. Well, there you go. Maybe you’ll hear that noise sometime and not need to worry (or it’s a bad wheel bearing lol).
