THE SONGBIRD: Sarah Aristidou is a rising soprano born in Cyprus. She was a member of the studio at Staatsoper unter den Linden in Berlin, where she recently stepped in to sing Zerbinetta, a role she will sing there again next season (as scheduled) and that will serve as her debut with Oper Frankfurt. She has sung or has scheduled debuts in Kӧln, Nantes, Bregenz, Malmo, and Salzburg. In addition to a focus on 17th and 18th century works, she specializes new music, having sung works by composers Feldman, Reimann, Ticciati, Widmann, Amargianaki, Jost, Ronchetti, Pintscher, Larcher, and Vivier.

THE MUSIC: Ignazio Celoniata (1730 - 1784) was the son of a violinist at the court of Turin. He was also a violinist and played in the court orchestra and at the Teatro Regio in Turin. He was also active as a theatrical impresario and concert organizer. We know of four operas he composed, including "Didone Abbandonata" in 1769, which premiered in Milan in 1770. The role of Araspe was composed for the castrato singer, Francesco Casatelli. This performance was part of the "Mozart in Italy" concert and lecture series in London in 2020, with Ian Page conducting The Mozartists.
