Lt Gen Manoj Pande will be India's new Army Chief and is set to assume the office on April 30 to replace incumbent Gen MM Naravane who is due to retire by the end of this month. Lt Gen Pande will be the first officer from the Corps of Engineering to hold the top position, a post so far occupied by Infantry, Armoured and Artillery officers. Lt Gen Pande has commanded an engineer brigade in the western theatre, an infantry brigade along LoC, a mountain division in the Ladakh sector and a corps in the northeast in his 39-year military career.
