Hello everyone! In this video, I am restoring the headlights on a 2013 Toyota Rav4. While these vehicles are typically my top easiest headlights to restore, this customer tried a quick solution she saw online, using bug spray. Yes, bug spray may remove the oxidation, but its not even remotely close to a proper way to restore your headlights, and can do some serious damage to them. These bug sprays and other quick fix "hacks" I see online like WD-40, often contain various chemicals that can react to the polycarbonate, which can result in dislocation, scratching or even melting. These chemicals can also penetrate deep into the headlight, rendering a proper restoration completely useless. If that happens, the only other option you have is to replace them entirely costing you even more money!
I first attempted to wet sand with a 400 grit sandpaper, but I wasn't getting anywhere so I had to drop down to a 320. Once I removed the top layer entirely, I finished with 600 grit before applying the clear coat.
