The jazz combo Dexter Gordon, Consisting of: tenor saxophonist Dexter Gorden, pianist George Gruntz, bassist Guy Pedersen and drummer Daniel Humair. Playing from the Poortwal in Amersfoort. Dexter Gordon was born in Los Angeles (1923-1990). He was an American tenor saxophonist and is considered as one of the first bebop tenor saxophonists. Gordon was a tall guy, 6 feet 2, to be precisely, that’s why people nicknamed him ‘Long Tall Dexter’. Dexter learned to play the clarinet when he was 13 but discovered the saxophone two years later which he preferred playing on. He was also one step ahead from other starting musicians because his dad was a doctor and Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton were his dads patients. Gordon was a striking artist. He liked to sing a song before he started playing and had a tendency to play behind the beat. This video is digitized by Inn Archive from a 35 millimetre tele-recording film.
