One of the pioneers of the coupe SUV segment is back with less controversial, and much more modern, styling

KG Mobility announced the market launch of the Actyon in Korea, ahead of exports.
The new generation of the Actyon adopts a more modern styling than its divisive predecessor.
The SUV shares its underpinnings with the Torres, including the turbo 1.5-liter engine.
KG Mobility, formerly known as SsangYong, introduced the new Actyon in Korea, further expanding its SUV lineup. The Actyon is described as a coupe SUV, and is based on the underpinnings of the Torres.

SsangYong originally introduced the Actyon (action and young) back in 2005, preceding the BMW X6 as one of the pioneers of the coupe SUV segment. The new generation doesn’t share the divisive styling of its predecessor, as it looks like a stretched KG Mobility Torres with a Range Rover Velar-inspired tail.

We first laid eyes on the Actyon (then known as the J120 Project) in a revealing teaser on February 2024, and now the model has been detailed and launched in the South Korean market. Differences with the Torres include a distinct LED lighting signature, restyled bumpers, and a sloped rear glass. Interestingly, all versions of the Actyon come standard with 20-inch alloy wheels, complementing its proportions.

The KGM Actyon measures 4,740 mm (186.6 inches) long, 1,920 mm (75.6 inches) wide, and 1,680 mm (66.1 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,680 mm (105.5 inches). This makes it longer, wider, and lower than the Torres, with an identical wheelbase.

Inside, the digital cockpit comprises dual 12.3-inch displays, with the infotainment touchscreen being slightly tilted toward the driver. The quilted leather upholstery with suede inserts can be ordered in Black and Red, or in Camel and Beige two-tone shades, combined with carbon fiber or black wood accents.

The SUV also benefits from 32-color ambient lighting, a new flat-bottom steering wheel with integrated controls, a wireless charging pad, and a crystal toggle-style gear shift lever. Furthermore, there is a number of ADAS included as standard.

The Actyon offers plenty of room for passengers and their luggage. KG Mobility brags about the rear headroom and the 668 lt (23.6 cubic feet) boot that can expand to 1,568 lt (55.4 cubic feet) when the second row of seats is folded.

The KG Mobility Action rides on the same architecture with the Torres. Under the hood lies the same turbocharged 1.5-liter GDi four-cylinder gasoline engine, producing 168 hp (125 kW / 170 PS) and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) of torque. The mill is exclusively mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox, sending power to either the front or to all four wheels.

While the automaker didn’t mention anything about electrified variants, the Actyon could inherit the fully electric powertrain of the Torres EVX in the future.

The KG Mobility Actyon is priced between ₩33.95-36.49 million ($24,775-26,629) in South Korea. The new generation of the coupe-SUV will arrive to export markets by the end of the year.
