(2 Sep 1994) Violent protests by Koreans took place on Friday (2/9) at the
Japanese Embassy in Seoul and demonstrators smashed their way
through a Japanese ceramics exhibition in Seoul to protest against
what they called Tokyo's failed attempt to compensate victims of
wartime atrocities. The protesters included several elderly "comfort women" who had been among an estimated 200,000 women, mostly Asians, forced to serve in frontline brothels for Japanese troops in World War Two.
