Skeptical NT scholar Bart Ehrman thinks that the idea that Jesus is Yahweh is more of a modern development in Christian theology. On his blog, Ehrman says "I can’t think of any ancient Christian source that talks about Jesus as Yahweh himself. Jesus is the son of Yahweh."
In a previous video I’ve looked at several early Christian theologians from the first three centuries of the church who seemed to believe that Jesus was Yahweh. Several thoughtful people in the comments have pointed out in the comments that Jesus is not explicitly called Yahweh and so therefore I’m misreading or mischaracterizing Ehrman.
So was I missing the point or knocking down a strawman? I don’t think so.
