STORYLINE:
The flagship of the United States Navy's 7th Fleet, the USS Blue Ridge, arrived at Donghae city in South Korea on Friday to drop off troops for the ongoing annual South Korea-US joint military drill, the Key Resolve exercise.
It was the first time in 30 years that the vessel was docking at Donghae port, although it has visited other South Korean ports, US Navy officials said.
The Blue Ridge's Global Command and Control System allows it to be the most capable flagship ever built, with high-powered computers throughout the ship from which information and data from world-wire sources are entered into a central database, according to the US Navy.
The integrated database concentrates the available information into a complete tactical picture of air, surface and subsurface contacts, enabling the fleet commander to quickly assess any situation.
During the visit, the Blue Ridge personnel and members of the US 7th Fleet staff will also have the opportunity to engage with their South Korean Navy counterparts and for cultural exchange with the people of South Korea.
