Moong Dal Halwa Recipe
Ingredients:
1 cup moong dal (yellow split lentils)
1/2 cup ghee (clarified butter)
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup khoya (optional, for richness)
1/4 tsp cardamom powder
A few strands of saffron (soaked in warm milk for extra reachness)
2 tbsp chopped almonds
2 tbsp chopped cashews
2 tbsp chopped pistachios
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Moong Dal:
Wash and soak the moong dal for 4-5 hours or overnight.
Drain the water and dry roast dal for few mints. until it turns light golden brown.
Stir constantly to avoid burning, then grind the dal to a coarse paste without
adding any water.
2. Prepare the Syrup:
In a separate pan, heat water and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture comes to a boil.
Add the saffron-infused milk and khoya to the syrup (optional).
Mix well and set aside.
2. Cook the Moong Dal:
Heat ghee in a pan or kadhai.
Add 1 tsp Suji & 1 tsp Besan. Roast till ghee separated.
Add grind moong daal, and roast till ghee separated and releases a nutty aroma.
3. Combine syrup and dal :
Slowly pour the prepared syrup/chasni into the roasted dal while stirring continuously.
Keep stirring and cook until the halwa absorbs all the liquid and starts to thicken.
4. Add Flavorings:
Add cardamom powder, chopped almonds, cashews, and pistachios to the halwa.
Cook for another 5-7 minutes until the halwa is smooth, fragrant, and the ghee begins to separate from the mixture.
6. Serve:
Serve the hot and delicious Moong Dal Halwa garnished with more nuts and saffron strands. It’s perfect for festive occasions or as a winter dessert.
