On August 26th, Women’s Equality Day honors more than 200 years of advancements towards achieving gender equality.
It all started with the suffrage movement which began in the 1800's. Nearly 100 years later, the 19th amendment was passed in Congress by a single vote.
Prior to this landmark victory, state laws prohibited women from having access to many career and educational opportunities, becoming landowners, signing contracts, serving on juries, and even voting in elections. Many BIPOC women were not allowed to vote until the 60s and 70s.
Today, we celebrate and support those who tirelessly work to overcome gender inequality.
