Our blink rate decreases by 60% when we use digital devices. This decrease in blink rate causes the tears on the eyes to evaporate faster, leaving the surface of the eyes exposed to dry out. This leads to redness, inflammation, and possible blurry vision. This also can cause incomplete blinks, causing similar symptoms. This can also contribute to meibomian gland dysfunction (mgd), problems with the oil glands in the eyelids. Blinking exercises have been shown to improve blinking quality, which improves and increases full blinks. This can help with dry eyes now, and also in the future.
