In this video, we will show you how to install the latest Mozilla Firefox, not as a Snap package, on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. As you know, Firefox in Ubuntu 22.04 is a snap package that runs in sandbox. It's easy to remove. But when you try to install the deb package via apt, it just installs the snap version back
We can install Firefox in two ways, not as snap package on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. They all accomplish the same thing, but you should choose the one that suits you best:
- Installing from the Mozilla PPA repository. and
- Installing from Firefox’s official website, Mozilla.org
Step 1:
$ sudo snap remove --purge firefox
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/ppa
echo '
Package: *
Pin: release o=LP-PPA-mozillateam
Pin-Priority: 1001
' | sudo tee /etc/apt/preferences.d/mozilla-firefox
$ echo 'Unattended-Upgrade::Allowed-Origins:: "LP-PPA-mozillateam:${distro_codename}";' | sudo tee /etc/apt/preferences.d/mozilla-firefox
$ sudo apt install firefox -y
