The Karnataka cabinet has cleared a bill which reserves 100% reservation for Kannadigas in private firms in the state. This bill mandates 100% reservation for Kannadigas in Group C and Group D posts. The bill is called “Karnataka State Employment of Local Candidates in the Industries, Factories, and Other Establishments Bill, 2024.” However, CM Siddaramaiah deleted the post on X amid sharp criticisms. CM Siddaramaiah in his now deleted post on X had said that it is his government’s wish that Kannadigas be given the opportunity to lead a comfortable life in their own state, and not be deprived of jobs on their own Kannada land. Siddaramaiah made his stand clear that they are a pro-Kannada government, and it's their priority to look after the welfare of Kannadigas. Karnataka Labor Minister Santosh S Lad has clarified that this new bill also requires that 50% of management positions and 70% of non-management positions must be reserved for local candidates in the industries, factories and other establishments. However, according to minister Santosh S Lad, if there are not enough qualified Kannadigas available, then the company must work with the government to train the local candidates within three years to meet the requirements.
