الأسطوانية البرازية أو الدودة الخيطية (بالإنجليزية: Strongyloides stercoralis) هي الاسم العلمي لديدان اسطوانية تصيب الإنسان وتسبب داء الأسطوانيات الشعرية.

الدودة الشصية ('دودة الانسيلوستوما) (بالإنجليزية: hookworm) هي طفيلي يعيش في الأمعاء الدقيقة لثويه، والتي تكون اٍما ثدييات كالكلاب، القطط والاٍنسان. هناك نوعان من الدودة الشصية تصيب الاٍنسان، الفتاكة الأمريكية والأنكلستوما الاٍثناعشرية.
تغلب الفتاكة الأمريكية في الأمريكيتان، إفريقيا جنوب الصحراء، جنوب شرق آسيا، الصين وإندونيسيا. في حين تغلب الأنكلستوما الاٍثناعشرية في الشرق الأوسط، شمال أفريقيا، الهند وسابقا جنوب أوربَّا. تصيب الدودة الشصية حوالي 600 مليون شخص عبر العالم.
أنكلستوما برازيلية وأنكلستوما أنبوبية الشكل تصيب القطط، في حين أنكلستوما كلبية تصيب الكلب. أما أنكلستوما ضيقة الرأس فتصيب القطط والكلاب في نفس الوقت.
إنتشارها
Strongyloides stercoralis is a human pathogenic parasitic roundworm causing the disease strongyloidiasis. Its common name is threadworm. In the UK and Australia, however, the term threadworm can also refer to nematodes of the genus Enterobius, otherwise known as pinworms.

The Strongyloides stercoralis nematode can parasitize humans. The adult parasitic stage lives in tunnels in the mucosa of the small intestine. The genus Strongyloides contains 53 species, and S. stercoralis is the type species. S. stercoralis has been reported in other mammals, including cats and dogs. However, it seems that the species in dogs is typically not S. stercoralis, but the related species S. canis. Non-human primates are more commonly infected with S. fuelleborni and S. cebus, although S. stercoralis has been reported in captive primates. Other species of Strongyloides, naturally parasitic in humans, but with restricted distributions, are S. fuelleborni in central Africa and S. kellyi in Papua New Guinea.

Hookworm infection, also known as hookworm disease, is an infection by a parasitic bloodsucking roundworm. Hookworm infections include ancylostomiasis and necatoriasis. These worms live in the small intestine which may be that of a bird or mammal such as a dog, cat, or human. Hookworm infection in pregnancy can cause poor growth, premature birth and a low birth weight of the baby. Hookworms in children can cause intellectual and growth problems.

Two species of hookworms commonly infect humans: Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus. A. duodenale is the more common type in the Middle East, North Africa, India and (formerly) in southern Europe, while N. americanus is the more common type in the Americas, Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, China, and Indonesia. A. tubaeforme infects cats, A. caninum infects dogs and A. braziliense and Uncinaria stenocephala infect both cats and dogs. Hookworms are much smaller than the giant roundworms Ascaris lumbricoides. The most significant risk of hookworm infection is anemia, secondary to loss of iron (and protein) in the gut. The worms suck blood and damage the mucosa. However, the blood loss in the stools is not visibly apparent.

Hookworm infection affects over half a billion people globally. It is a leading cause of health problems in mothers and children in developing countries of the tropics and subtropics. In developed countries, hookworm infection is rarely fatal, but anemia can be significant in a heavily infected individual. Hookworm infection is a soil-transmitted helminthiasis and therefore classified as a neglected tropical disease. Ancylostomiasis is the disease caused when Ancylostoma duodenale hookworms, present in large numbers, produce an iron deficiency anemia by sucking blood from the host's intestinal walls.
