This patient had degenerative disc disease on multiple levels, but spinal fractures on the facet joints of one disc level meant a fusion would be necessary. Dr. Lanman replaced two degenerated discs with artificial discs and fused the third level, where fractures were present, to give the patient more stability while balancing mobility.
