[Update] A much better strategy using Big Bang Core is linked below. [/Update]
The last main mission for my WD and it gave me a headache. The main problems are the golden Alphas and the WD's lack of a weapon like the Idunn FF. In 4.1, I would have used it against the Death Queens. The Lightning Bow is a weak excuse as a replacement. Raijin α doesn't kill the red Death Queen in 1 hit, so it left me with my pants down.
The Rapier is set, so I needed 1 weapon with enough range and punch to fight Death Queens, but it had also to be good against the small Wasps. The Closed Laser and Monster can kill the Death Queens (Monster is way better, though), but are shitty against small enemies. And they come with the risk of accidentially hitting a dormant enemy far away while fighting Wasps at closer range in a hurry. I eventually settled with the Mag Blaster. It has enough power and range to deal with Death Queens. But you absolutely need a building as cover, as it can't stunlock the Queen. The Mag Blaster is great for killing golden Alphas over a safe distance. Sadly, the firepower drops significantly when the magazine runs low.
For most Mag Blasters, the decrease rate is the square of the inverse proportion of the remaining ammunition. In other words, the power becomes 1/4 with half the number of ammunition. For all the "D" models (DA, DN, DX and the FDX) it's not the square, it's the cube. For those models, the power becomes 1/8 with half the number of ammunition. You should reload around the 50% mark if you can. A similar mechanism (with different numbers) applies to the Monster. It has only half the firepower you would expect by just reading the numbers in the datasheet.
Well, the overall strategy is clear: pull the enemies in small groups, use health kits between fights to keep the NPCs alive. Sadly, there are lots of things that can go wrong:
Getting 1-shot by a golden Alpha.
Activating too much enemies due to bad judgement or a stray shot during battle.
You or an NPC getting flung straight into the waiting enemy army by a Tadpole.
When the number of enemies falls below 7, a huge group of green Alphas spawns. They are no problem on their own, as the Rapier melts them down quickly. But mix in a silver King, Archelus or some remaining golden Alphas and things might get dicey.
The luck factor is high in this mission. The biggest problem to me were the golden Alphas. There's roughly a dozen of them. When you pull a group of enemies, there are almost always some of them peppered in. If you don't notice and kill them right away, the mission is over. Most times I died without seeing my killer.
Archelus is activated when the left Colonist is aggroed. 1-shotting the Colonist still activates Archelus.
Listen to your NPCs. They have some phrases they say when enemies get aggroed or the last aggro enemy dies. If you shoot an enemy who you think is the last aggro one, but they don't say something like 'Clear', there's still some Monster coming for you.
