UFC International Fight Week has taken over Las Vegas with fan experiences and Hall of Fame inductions, all culminating in UFC 303 at T-Mobile Arena. This event will feature a rematch between UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira and former UFC Middleweight Champion Jiří Procházka.
The light heavyweight bout replaced the originally scheduled main event after Conor McGregor was forced to withdraw from a planned fight against Michael Chandler due to an injury. UFC CEO Dana White stated that there are no current plans to reschedule that matchup. “If [McGregor] comes back and says, ‘I’m ready,’ and we feel that it’s time to go again, then we’ll do it,” White said. “I’m not even thinking about rescheduling or him fighting.”
White is eagerly anticipating more headline-making fights in Las Vegas, including a groundbreaking event at Sphere in September, which he promised would be “jaw-dropping.” UFC 306, celebrating Mexican Independence Day on September 16, will feature a UFC Women’s Flyweight Championship match between champion Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko. White described the event as a love letter to Mexican culture and their passion for combat sports. “To say that I’m excited about this is the understatement of all time,” he said.
Beyond the UFC, White is also enthusiastic about the potential of an NBA expansion team in Las Vegas. He believes an NBA franchise would be hugely successful in the entertainment capital of the world. “All they need is an arena, and it will destroy here in Las Vegas,” White said, suggesting that a larger arena would perfectly suit a Las Vegas NBA expansion team. “If they can build an arena bigger than T-Mobile, they will absolutely kill it here in Las Vegas.”
In addition to UFC events, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), the UFC’s sister company, is bringing WrestleMania 41 to Las Vegas in 2025, highlighting the city’s status as a prime destination for major events. “There is no bigger or better destination in the world than Las Vegas,” White said. “Everything about events is about destination, and Vegas is the perfect destination.”
