China's domestically produced passenger jets, the C919 and ARJ21, are conducting test flights in five Southeast Asian countries with the hopes of expanding their fleets in the region.
After stealing the spotlight at the recent Singapore Airshow, the two jetliners from the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, or COMAC, are conducting a series of demonstration flights at various regional airports.
Their first stop is Vietnam.
The narrow-body C919 is seen as a challenger to Boeing's 737 and Airbus's A320 families of jets.
COMAC's arrival on the global aviation scene comes amidst supply chain issues and faulty parts crises for the two dominant Western companies, with the C919 starting domestic commercial operations last May.
COMAC is working to further spread its wings in the Asia-Pacific market where demand for passenger aircraft is expected to increase from over 3,000 to more than 9,000 in the next two decades.
