This melon originated in the Crimean peninsula of Ukraine. It has been cultivated in Xinjiang for nearly a century. Xinjiang natives call it yellow egg. This variety is often planted by growers year after year, such as eating a delicious melon this year and leaving the seeds to be planted next year. Due to long-term hybridization with native varieties, its offspring become very diverse.
