This manual therapy technique is a mobilization with movement (MWM) to the ankle. We emphasize the importance of ankle dorsiflexion (toes up) range of motion for all of our athletes. Having adequate ankle mobility is crucial to our runners, jumpers, and weightlifters to ensure quality movement and should be addressed in your rehabilitation program!
This variation of the technique uses a mobilization belt to provide overpressure into the joint mobilization. The therapist will apply a posterior glide to the talus of the ankle while the athlete moves forward into a lunge position to effectively improve excursion into dorsiflexion. This technique can then be complimented by utilizing a weighted goblet squat or other weight bearing exercises that would emphasize this dorsiflexion moment.
If you or anyone you know needs to decrease their pain, improve their performance, and become an overall better athlete, reach out to us via call, text, or email.
