Having done a few all-percussion takes on Sousa marches, I decided to try the same approach with the composition "Radetzky March, Op. 228" by Johann Strauss. It didn't work out the way I wanted it to, but I'm still glad I did it. MIDI can be too overwhelming; it would sound so much better with real instruments.
To play it my way, you need:
3 glockenspiels
3 sets of crotales
2 metallophones
3 xylophones
Tubular bells
4 vibraphones
6 marimbas (2 grand staff, 2 treble clef, 2 bass clef)
Steel drum ensemble (soprano, alto, tenor, bass)
Timpani
