Gigafactory Texas on 12 August 2022! This is where the Cyber Truck and Model Y will be built!
A very busy, hot and humid morning at Giga Texas today at the end of another very productive week!
Big developments around the site today, including at the north electrical substation construction site! Permits for substation construction have now been approved and finalized, and now trenching for the grounding grid have been made on the main clearing location! We also look at more excavation work north of the battery cathode plant, a secondary pipe horizontal pipe drilling underway on the south end, and what appears to be an inventory changeout of Model Y’s on the south parking and loading ramp.
In the video introduction, I also show you another transport truck loaded with Model Y’s near the northwest corner of the battery cell production portion of the main factory, and we look at a image of the electrical substation construction site with overlays comparing the sizes of the temporary and permanent electrical substation sites.
I hope you enjoy the video and the information presented today and have a great weekend!

Here are some more highlights from today's video:
- As mentioned above, there are big developments at north electrical substation site today, including trenching making a large grid that will be for the main grounds for the installation of all the electrical systems. This also shows us the overall size and scale of the new substation, which is many times larger than the temporary substation currently in operation! In the video, I also show some overlays to orient the viewer to the entire construction site in this location.
- On the south end, we see what may be a large-scale Model Y inventory changeover. Many of the cars in the parking lot that have been there for several weeks now moved, and these were replaced with more brand-new Model Y’s (mostly in black and blue colors). Perhaps this is another indicator of changing production!
- Also on the south end, we see new directional drilling for the second (and smaller) pipe that will be pulled under the river once the new bore is drilled. On the south side of the river, we see most of the pipe sections arranged and waiting for crews to fuse them together into a long contiguous pipe for pulling.
- We travel well north of the battery cathode plant where we see resumed large-scale work to excavate more dirt that is being used around the rest of the site, particularly on the east material storage and trailer location.
- At the battery cathode plant, we see major progress on the roof decking installation, now almost to the north end. Large sections of the second and third floor further to the north have had concrete poured and rebar placed for even more concrete. We also see crews installing mounts on exterior columns for the concrete wall panels, while other crews are installing floor and roof decking. On the south end roof section, crews are laying out wooden forms in preparation of foam panel installation which will then be covered with a sprayed lightweight concrete in the next week or two.
- We see crews actively preparing the smaller east parking lot for asphalt paving. All the conduit, electrical connections, light pole bases and charging station have been completed, so paving should progress quickly now. The trailers that were temporarily stored there in the past 96 hours were also moved away.
- Solar panel installation expansion. Now, nearly 19,000 panels have been installed out of what will be over 70,000 once the entire roof has been covered. We will be watching solar panel installation for many more months!
