In a new video to mark International Women’s Day, Ms Emma Fontvieille of the Nutrition and Metabolism Branch of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) speaks about some of the issues that are of particular concern to women as they contemplate pursuing a career in research.
A scarcity of women in research fields, with even fewer in leadership positions, and a relatively long path to career stability can make research seem a particularly daunting career choice for some women, especially those who may want to start a family.
Ms Fontvieille highlights how mentors can help younger researchers; comments on the progress that has been made and the work that remains to be done; and notes some of the elements that will be needed to bring about a more equitable research environment for the benefit of all.
