Although Rolex is known for selectively placing logos on their dials; Pool Integral and Domino's Pizza as some more common examples, the Masonic dial is one of the most interesting and alluring as it is so seldomly seem as it is in collaboration with one of the most secretive fraternities in the world. This 1971 Datejust Ref. 1603 is deeply exciting, as it features the most well known Freemasonry symbol of them all, the 'Square and Compasses' insignia. The symbol’s origin is believed to have come from the stonemasons’ guilds during the middle ages. In many English speaking countries, the Square and Compasses are depicted with the letter "G" in the center. The "G" is said to have a variety of meanings, depending on the context. It is most commonly believed that the G stands for either God, Geometry, or both. Geometry is described as being "the basis upon which the superstructure of Freemasonry and everything in existence in the entire universe is erected", as well as the "noblest of sciences". Adding to the authenticity and history of this Datejust, it is accompanied by its original Rolex Guarantee paper, serialized guarantee booklet, translations papers, and inner and outer boxes. Making this already collectible anomaly for Rolex, all the more worthwhile.
