Part 3 of 3. Here's the tanning process for this fur pelt I got from a good looking male California Grey fox late this season. After skinning and fleshing, I salt the flesh side well with 2 or 3 changes of salt, until the hide is very stiff and utterly dry. This preserves the hide and prevents the hair from slipping. in this case I had trouble removing the flesh with my knife so I used a dremel tool to do the fleshing after the pelt was dried, before proceeding to step 4 of the instructions which come with the hide tanning formula. I made a few mistakes throughout the process, but the performance of the tanning formula still exceeded my expectations by producing a soft, supple hair-on tan. It is important to let the hide dry after tanning before getting too rough with it during the breaking process, especially around the ears and tail, so the hair doesn't slip. Once it is dry, the hair should hold tight.
