The day before the Dragon Boat Festival got underway, roads were already clogged with holiday-makers hoping to get a head start on traffic. Congestion was especially heavy on National Freeway No. 5, where the average speed fell below 20 kilometers an hour.
According to the Freeway Bureau, traffic volume between midnight and 9 a.m. on Thursday was up 19% compared to the same period last year. National Freeway No. 5 set a new record, with a traffic jam that lasted for 35 hours.
