Radon gas is produced naturally when uranium in the earth’s rock and soil breaks down. It is impossible to detect without proper testing and equipment, and it can cause serious health risks if not treated professionally.
Radon exists in all homes, but it is only harmful at higher levels. Any levels above 200 Bq/m3 is considered unsafe by Health Canada, and they estimate that approximately 7% of homes in Canada have levels above this amount.
A simple test will most likely give you peace of mind that your home is safe - but a if a test reveals elevated levels - don't panic! Radon can be reduced with a mitigation system, which we recommend be installed by a technician certified by the Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program (C-NRPP).
