McLaren Automotive has officially announced the schedule for the inaugural 2025 McLaren Trophy America championship, set to debut in the spring. Similar to its European counterpart, the American series will consist of ten rounds hosted at five prominent racing venues.
Originally established in Europe for the 2023 season, the McLaren Trophy is designed to challenge serious race drivers in intense 50-minute races that include pit stops for driver changes. This championship showcases the 577 brake horsepower V6 twin-turbo, carbon-fiber chassis Artura Trophy race car. Additionally, it welcomes drivers of the older 570S Trophy models.
The new McLaren Trophy America championship will commence in late March 2025 at the Sonoma Raceway in Northern California. All rounds will be part of the GT World Challenge America powered by Amazon Web Services. The series will then move to the renowned Circuit of the Americas, a track that has been a staple for the United States Grand Prix for over ten years.
The midpoint of the championship will be held at the Virginia International Raceway in July, followed by an August event at the challenging Road America circuit. The inaugural season will conclude in October at the Indianapolis road circuit, promising an exciting finale.
The series will feature bespoke McLaren Artura Trophy race cars, incorporating much of the advanced engineering found in the McLaren Artura road car. This includes the McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture, which provides a robust and lightweight chassis for exceptional performance and impact resistance. The twin-turbo V6 engine, producing 577 brake horsepower, ensures remarkable straight-line speed, while its low positioning in the chassis enhances cornering abilities. An aerodynamic package, including a high downforce rear wing, further boosts the car’s performance, allowing it to achieve lap times comparable to GT3 class cars and offering maximum driver engagement.
Independent teams will operate the cars, with existing 570S Trophy models also eligible to compete. These cars will vie for class wins and championships alongside the Artura Trophy cars, with full support from McLaren Motorsport, including replacement parts and backup at every round.
McLaren Toronto, McLaren Americas Retailer of the Year, is among the first to sign up, partnering with Motorsports in Action to field a two-car team in the 2025 championship.
All McLaren Trophy races will be live-streamed on the McLaren Automotive YouTube channel, with an audience of over 250,000 fans regularly tuning in to watch the action.
