Paul Verhoeven -- probably my favorite living director -- is responsible for directing some of the biggest box-office blockbusters and controversial cult-classics of the 1980s and 90s -- Flesh + Blood, Robocop, Total Recall, Basic Instinct, Showgirls, Starship Troopers, and Hollow Man. His body of work is tragically under-studied. I'm here to fix that.

After giving you a rundown of his English-language filmography, this video explores three features that run throughout his work. One is structural, one is narrative, and one is thematic.
