English speaking people will recognize this song as "Black Denim Trousers and Motorcycle Boots, " a pop hit by Vaughn Monroe, 1955 ,music by Lieber et Stoller, lyrics by Jean Dréjac (1956). How could Piaf resist a song where love ends in tragedy, even death? She brought it home with her, it was translated by "Cercle Français de Sanibel Island" FL, then she sang it at her Carnegie Halll concert in New York, January 13, 1957, her seventh visit to the Big Apple. It's the only Piaf song I can think of that has that driving American rock feel to it, yet the French were surprised that it wasn't originally theirs. Thanks again to philipcheck of Paris and Youtube for refining the translation.
