Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey was heckled by a crowd of protesters telling him to "go home" on Saturday after he ruled out defunding the police department during a demonstration.
Protesters had marched to the mayor's house, demanding that he remove funding for the Minneapolis Police Department. Mr Frey told the crowd that he could not support the call to defund the police when asked by the organiser of the rally, resulting in a chorus of boos and chants of "shame! shame! shame!".
Local media reported that some members of the Minneapolis City Council supported disbanding the department and putting in place a model of community-led safety, but Mr Frey said he favours reforms instead.
Tens of thousands of demonstrators have amassed in US cities demanding an end to racism and brutality by law enforcement, sparked by the death of George Floyd who died after a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
