Tanisha Brewer-Lott,credentialing supervisor at Nephrology Practice Solutions covers 3 tips for credentialing a new physician.
Credentialing a new physician is a time consuming yet incredibly important step to getting your new physician up and running.
1. The first thing you need to do is get copies of all of your pertinent documents. This includes: Education Certificates, Copies of State Licensures/DEA, Continuing Medical Education and, Immunization Records Documents (such as Flu, TB, Hep B).
2. The second step is to gather current/up to date contact information for peer references. Make sure to have at least 4 peer references available that are willing to respond in a timely manner. Ensure that you have a current email, phone number, fax number and address for each one and try to let them know in advance from whom they will be receiving requests.
3. Finally, complete contact information for persons who would be responsible for verifying information. Some examples are: Internship/Residency/Fellowship, previous employers, previous malpractice insurance companies and contacts who may need to verify gaps of over 90 days in your work history.
