Secretary of State Nominee Mike Pompeo Confirmation Hearing Mike Pompeo, President Trump’s pick to replace former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on his nomination. Senators asked him questions about his personal views, his plans on communicating with the president, and plans for large scale foreign policy issues like those in Syria. Many senators expressed concern about his willingness to challenge the president on issues he personally disagrees with. Additionally, several senators focused on his past statements, and how those could influence his work in the office of secretary of state.
