JustAnswer Customer: White Rodgers/Emerson 1F95-1277 thermostat has begun misbehaving.
JustAnswer Customer: It began with the interior temp reading at "--" then the outside temp began to fluctuate.  I changed the AA batteries.
JustAnswer Customer: Now it flashes randomly and about every 5th flash it lights up all text and symbols on the screen simultaneously.
JustAnswer Customer: Up until now I've had zero issues with the unit.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Next rewire them and clean the battery terminals with some sandpaper, install the batteries and then snap it all back together.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Leave wires off and batteries out for more than 2 minutes.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: When you put the face back on make sure you push it in firmly.
JustAnswer Customer: Okay.
JustAnswer Customer: Everything is disconnected.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Great, give it more than 2 minutes and follow the next set of steps.

JustAnswer Customer: The battery terminals a just small springs, am I missing something?
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Nope, clean them and the opposite end too.
JustAnswer Customer: re just small springs.
JustAnswer Customer: They appear clean and corrosion free.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Sandpaper or steel wool.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Ok, if you are certain that is fine.

JustAnswer Customer: Do I power the system back up now?
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Yes

JustAnswer Customer: Okay, it is blinking again.
JustAnswer Customer: It goes from blank to everything, over and over.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Push the face firmly and see if anything changes.
JustAnswer Customer: Not much difference.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Did the screen try to come off and on when you did that or no change at all?
JustAnswer Customer: It went blank, then began flashing.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Pull it off again and look at both the back of it and the mounting plate.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Are there metal prongs that connect the two when connected?
JustAnswer Customer: Yes, there are prongs.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Are they all straight?
JustAnswer Customer: es, they are straight and clean.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Ok, since this thermostat relies on batteries to light the face the problem is obviously internal to the thermostat.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Be it static shock or just a random failure you will need to replace the thermostat to fix this problem.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: When you buy a new one you will need to know a few things.
JustAnswer Customer: I was afraid of that.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Can you please tell me terminals on the mounting plate have wires connected to them.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Like R, G, Y, W, W1, etc.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Just the ones that have wires.
JustAnswer Customer: Left bar: O=orange Y=yellow G=green RC=red incoming ( also jumpered to RH) C=black.
JustAnswer Customer: Right bar : +=red s=white -=green w2=brown w/e=white.
JustAnswer Customer: It is a dual fuel propane furnace/electric heat pump system bt Goodman.
JustAnswer Customer: As I said, it's been just fine until this week.
JustAnswer Customer: But we've been running it very little in the milder weather we've had recently.
JustAnswer Customer: Nothing was changed about the system, so I sort of assumed the electonics were at fault.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Ok that's good.

Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: When you go buy a new one, wherever you go, Lowes/Home Depot make sure you tell them it's a dual fuel and you will need a multi staged heat pump thermostat with outdoor sensor connections.
JustAnswer Customer: Could you confirm which 2 wires I would put the multimeter to to confirm I have 24v coming in?
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: 3Heat/2Cool is probably the one you'll end up with but make sure you tell them about the outdoor sensor via the +/- connections.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: C and Rc.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: One probe on each.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: The display shouldn't require the 24v to light up.
JustAnswer Customer: With my multimeter set to 600 Vac I'm pulling 27.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Perfect.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: It will fluctuate by several volts.
Comfort Specialist: HVAC Technician: Not exactly 24v.
