Dr. Shabir Ally says that Islam strikes a happy medium between pro-life and pro-choice camps. He explains that within the first 40 days, or 6 weeks, many jurists consider abortions harmless. Before 120 days, or 17 weeks, there is still some allowance within Islamic law for abortions. After 120 days, abortions are impermissible except to save the life of the mother. So Islam allows for some choice while recognizing and valuing the growing life within.
