Refractive Lens Exchange or a clear lens extraction or a lens replacement surgery. These areadvocatedn some patients who are not suitable for LASIK, PRK or phakic intraocular lens. Refractive Lens Exchange is also called as clear lens extraction. These are indicated in patients who have got a very high far sightedness or a hypermetropia. Along with difficulty reading, what is called as a presbiopia. These refractive errors cannot be corrected by these procedures like LASIK, PRK or phakic intraocular lens. These candidates are suitable for Refractive Lens Exchange. Tough Refractive Lens Exchange is not US FDA approved, it is practiced quite commonly all over the world. The clear lens is removed and replaced with an artificial lens. The lens may be a monofocal lens, or a multifocal lens or a toric lens depending on the persons requirement, ocassionally Refractive Lens Exchange or clear lens extraction is done in a patient with myopia or what is called as short sightedness but usually patients with myopia can develop retinal detachment post refractive lens exchange surgery. So Refractive Lens Exchange surgery is basically imitated to those patients who are not suitable for LASIK, PRK or phakic intraocular lenses and who have got a very high hypermetropia. The selection of the patient has to be very stringent and the choice of lenses has to be depending upon what the patient wants.
