How to Make Compost at Home in the Desert
In this quick video, I show how I make compost at home for the garden.
I use my lawn mower to chop the compost ingredients up as small as I can. This aids the composting process. Then I toss it in the compost bin and turn with a pitchfork every other day for 28 days, it's usually ready by then.
Making high quality compost in Arizona isn't that hard, just pay attention to the moisture content and turn it regularly. You can use 50/50 ratio greens/browns, all the way to 10% greens/90% browns.
If you are new to gardening in the desert, consider taking a course from one of our local gardening gurus Greg Peterson.
These courses offer valuable knowledge and techniques to help you find success in our harsh climate.
