What’s the movie The Great Wall about?
Mercenaries travel to China in search of the secret of gunpowder. They are attacked by a monster and only two survive: Garin (Matt Damon from The Martian) and Tovar (Pedro Pascal from the Game of Thrones tv show). When they reach the wall they are taken prisoner by the soldiers of the Nameless Order, who are fighting aliens that arrived with a meteorite and attack every 60 years. During a battle, the two mercenaries are freed by a European named Baillard (Willem Dafoe from Spider Man), also looking for gunpowder but captured and held for 25 years. They learn that monsters are vulnerable in the presence of magnets, and realize that the stone Garin holds has this power. They manage to capture a Taotie and take him to the palace. During the investigation, Baillard and Tovar take the opportunity to escape with black powder. Garin is knocked out and taken prisoner. Baillard abandons Tovar, but he is captured by bandits who blow up everything. In the palace, Taotie reveals his position to the queen. Garin and two fighters reach the palace in a balloon. A fight breaks out between the monsters and the soldiers. Garin succeeds with his stone to paralyze the monsters and kill the queen. Garin is free to leave with Tovar and gives up his black powder reward.
