We are very lucky. We live in New England and our basement stays pretty dry, which is good because we use it for storage. However, on some rainy days, the basement does get a little humid. So we use a Honeywell Dehumidifier to keep the humidity level at or below 50. We were told that humidity levels above 50 could be bad for our basement and allow mold to grow (which could cause health issues). I’m not expert on mold, so contact an expert if you want to be sure the right setting for your basement’s dehumidifier or if you encounter mold in your home. The dehumidifier runs on electricity and pulls moisture out of the air when it’s running. The moisture is collected in the dehumidifier's bucket. The only problem is, once that bucket is filled up, you need to empty the bucket and put it back into the unit before it will continue to take moisture out of the air. Therefore, if you go on vacation or forget to empty the bucket when it’s full, levels could become humid in your basement and mold could begin growing. So to conqueror this problem, I bought an Everbilt Condensate Pump. This eliminates the need for your dehumidifier to use its bucket. I’ll show you how I installed it and how it works.
