While visiting Duck World (@duck.world.uk) in London, we were thinking about Ocean currents... 🌊
🤔 It's probably unsurprising to find out: Ocean currents are tricky to track.
For a long time, scientists where using predictive models to gauge how Ocean currents worked.
Until 🦆 thousands 🦆 of 🦆 rubber 🦆ducks 🦆 took 🦆 an 🦆 unplanned 🦆swim. 🦆
Back in 1992, a cargo ship 🚢 carrying 28,800 rubber duck toys fell into what we call the North Pacific Ocean.
🗺 Since then, these ducks have washed onto beaches all over the world (Alaska, Japan, Australia, the UK, the list goes on).
This proved to be valuable data to scientists. They began using this migration 🦆🤷♀️ journey to figure out how Ocean currents worked (which is fascinating).
But this rubber duck story also reminds us: 🌊 The Ocean is interconnected. 🌊
What happens in one part of our Ocean impacts the whole.
That's why we say Ocean, not oceans.💙
