Scrum is a simple framework like scaffolding, designed to make delivering projects easier, better, and faster.

It does this by breaking the scope of work, milestones, phases, and tasks into smaller component parts, small batches. Scrum teams use Lean Construction principles to focus on working closer to one piece flow, tackling one increment of work at a time, prioritization and sequencing.  

After each incremental step, the Scrum team reevaluates what direction the work should flow next, and what process is most efficient to accomplish that. Scrum allows you and your team to go and see what your project needs to improve in small cycles of inspection and adaptation planning and scheduling.

From the Scrum Guide:
"Scrum is a lightweight framework that helps people, teams, and organizations generate value through adaptive solutions for complex problems. In a nutshell, Scrum requires a Scrum Master to foster an environment where:
1. A Product Owner orders the work for a complex problem into a Product Backlog.
2. The Scrum Team turns a selection of the work into an increment of value during a Sprint.
3. The Scrum team and its stakeholders, inspect the results and adjust for the next Sprint.
4. Repeat.

Scrum is simple. Try it as is and determine if it's philosophy, theory, and structure help to achieve goals and create value. The Scrum framework is purposefully incomplete, only defining the parts required to implement Scrum theory. Scrum is built upon the collective intelligence of the people using it. Rather than provide people with detailed instructions, the rules of Scrum guide their relationships and interactions."

 An easy way to remember all the key elements of Scrum is this, 3-5-3. The first three represent the three roles in Scrum, the Product Owner, Scrum Master, and Developers. The team members. There are five events in Scrum, five meetings. The last three represent the three artifacts we create and use in Scrum. Three things we can observe and also help guide the five meetings. Each of the three artifacts reinforces accountability via a corresponding commitment that enhances focus, commitment, and transparency. Scrum works as a system.
