The state's chief archeologist says the Native American site in Carteret County's Cedar Point is the most significant find he's seen in 30 years. A coastal housing development at the center of a political battle inside the state legislature is sitting atop the state’s biggest Native American find in decades, North Carolina’s chief archeologist says.
The developers of the Bridge View neighborhood paid millions of dollars for the land, where they’ve already built some homes and plan to build dozens more along the intercoastal waterway in Carteret County’s Cedar Point, between Jacksonville and Emerald Isle. But after they dug up bones and alerted authorities, the investigation turned into an archeological dig.
