With some reluctance and in perfect American English, Farhad Moshiri explains that he is not entirely fit to be called a pure Iranian, despite the fact that he now resides and works in Iran, the country where he was born 50 years ago. Nor does his country's friction with the western world inspire him -- a trend he has observed in his compatriots' works. Moshiri spent 12 years in Los Angeles, where he was educated and trained, and is inspired by pop culture. So why does Moshiri, in his latest exhibition Picnic at Galerie Perrotin, choose to feature an ageing craft seen in many Iranian households -- embroidery?
