We seemed to have escaped the attentions of storms Dudley and Eunice and the timing of the next storm Franklin was not due to hit until after our meet on Sunday.
.
However, the mountain forecasts were still pretty dire with winds gusting to 60+ mph, heavy snow showers and poor visibility. So we decided to forgo the tops and settle for a gentle stroll at lower level. Or so we thought.
.
Who says low level walks a boring? With a poor forecast for anything high level, 13 intrepid souls opted for a meander up Glen Buck to the MBA Glen Buck bothy.
.
Our first challenges were two high padlocked gates however once past these the track was good and the fantastic views up and down the Great Glen soon opened up.
.
Glen Buck itself is very picturesque with birch woods and the rivers. It was good to see some new Scots pine had been planted too. The track along the south side of the glen was good and we were soon at the well appointed MBA bothy enjoying an early lunch.
.
Elevation: 283m.
Firewood nearby.
Large bothy with many rooms.
Although its situated in the middle of what can be best described as a builders yard when you shut the door behind you you leave the world outside, clean, tidy and well maintained.
