Simply put, it is the duration you need to wait, from the start of your policy, to use the benefits.
Some types of waiting periods in every health insurance policy are:
1. Initial Waiting Period: An initial waiting period is the time you’ll have to wait from the date of issue of policy to actively start using its benefits.
2. Pre-Existing Diseases (PED): PED refers to any condition, ailment, injury, or disease diagnosed up to 48 months before buying your policy. This waiting period is usually 1-4 years.
3. Specific Diseases: This waiting period, generally 1-4 years, is for a specific list of diseases provided by your insurance company.
4. Maternity Benefit & New-born Baby Cover: You can only claim for maternity-related expenses once you’ve completed this waiting period.
