This morning I managed to see a Drone Honey bee walking around the front of the hive. I wanted to show the difference between a larger Male Drone and mostly female worker bees.
They are easily identified by the large eyes and large abdomen. You can hear a drone returning to the hive by the distinctive louder buzz they produce, similar to a droning sound.
From Wikipedia:
Drones are male honey bees which are the product of an unfertilized egg. Unlike the female worker bee, drones do not have stingers and do not participate in nectar and pollen gathering. A drone's primary role is to mate with a fertile queen.
