The moments leading up to CIMX's switch to a country format as "Pure Country 89", around 12:00 PM EST on November 19, 2020 after 30 years as a alternative rock station... As a country station, CIMX now competes with WDRQ (93.1 FM, Cumulus), CJWF (95.9 FM, Blackburn) and WYCD (99.5 FM, Entercom)... Coincidentally, the alternative rock format left behind by the station was immediately picked up by WDZH (98.7 FM), owned by Entercom as ALT 98.7 -- again switching formats at the same time as CIMX and CIDR (93.9 FM)...
CIMX began in 1967 as CKWW-FM, co-owned with CKWW (580 AM), and its initially a middle-of-the-road, easy listening station before gradually shifting toward progressive rock starting in 1970...
